U.K. Study Indicates Teens Surf for Soft Porn, Emotional Support

LONDON — Teenagers in the U.K. are obsessed with body and image, as well as a lot of adult entertainment, according to a new study.

Online research firm OnePoll.com surveyed more than 1,000 teens to get their results, which saw some teens spending more than 31 hours online per week.

According to the study, teens spend a little more than an hour and a half looking at "soft porn," which would tally to 87 hours per year. Parental control software company CyberSentinel ran the study.

The CyberSentinel study also indicated that teens in the U.K. are spending a lot of time online looking up information on cosmetic surgery, dieting and weight loss and family planning. Other prominent activities include:

• YouTube: 2 hours, 2 minutes.
• Homework: 3 hours, 10 minutes.
• Shopping: 1 hour, 49 minutes.
• Auction sites: 1 hour, 28 minutes.
• Dating: 1 hour, 15 minutes.
• Social networking: 3 hours, 47 minutes.

CyberSentinel Marketing Director Ellie Puddle said these trends indicated a young populace that was too embarrassed to ask for help.

"The alarming thing about this research is that it shows that teenagers are obviously exploring all sorts of topics as a result of modern-day pressures [and] they find it easier to go online to conduct their research than asking mum and dad for advice," she said.
